Knipfel’s latest novel, Residue, will be released by Red Hen Press on April 15, 2015. If you’re that fucking anxious, you can pre-order it here.
Theory of Obscurity: A Film About The Residents, Don Hardy’s new documentary about the legendary and enigmatic avant-garde rock’n’roll performance quartet, premiered in San Francisco on January 17th. Along with a dog-choking load of rare and never-before-seen footage, the film also includes interviews with Penn Jillette, Matt Groening, Gary Panter, and members of DEVO, Primus, Ween, and the Talking Heads as well as a host of other notable types (and Jim). Why Knipfel is in there is anyone’s guess, and the way he mumbles, thank god it’s only a brief appearance. Be looking for the film in the months to come at an international film festival near you—it’s really something.
On Friday, March 13 2015, Knipfel will be participating in a Red Hen Press event in New York, giving what he considers a “reading,” which in reality is more just a rambling talk. Since the event takes place in a bar (and a Soviet-era themed bar at that!), the real tricky part will be whether or not he can remain sober enough to do his dancing chicken routine. For this reason he may try and convince the organizers to let him go on first. Here are the basic details:
